As Coventry finishes its year as UK City of Culture 2021, we are keen to demonstrate the fantastic culture and talent of Coventry to participating cities from around the world.
Cities will experience multiple forms of art and culture such as poetry, storytelling, historic walks and painting.
Creative Writing workshop – sustainability and activism
John Bernard - poet, rapper and writer will be hosting a creative writing workshop that will coincide with the International Children's Games' commitment to sustainability. The workshop focuses on the importance of using poetry for activism. It will be an introduction to activism in poetry and how it can help produce positive action.
Emilie Lauren-Jones – Coventry Poet Laureate – poetry workshop
From running and rugby to white water rafting, children will explore the joy of sport through words! By taking inspiration from example poems and prompts, each attendee will have fun creating their own sports-themed poem that they can take home. The workshops will take place in a supportive space where there will not no emphasis on spelling or handwriting - this is all about imagination!
Navkiran Mann – Listening Circle – Storytelling
The listening circle will be a workshop where children from all over the world will be able to listen, learn and share their lived experiences with the use of poetry! Learn about different cultures, traditions, and heritage through poetry and storytelling.
An opportunity to have a go at creating contemporary art with local artist SmiloArt. Traditionally, Smilo works with oil painting on canvas, and his style has gravitated into the UK music industry creating major collaborations with stars such as Naira Marley, Dave and AJ Tracey. This will be a fun-packed artistic workshop!
